Skan is not a generic AI platform, but a highly focused engine that uses computer vision and machine intelligence to record human interactions with digital systems and derives a metamodel of work .
How are you different than other process mining companies?
The origins of many of the process mining firms is in the analysis of backend application event logs. These tooling and approach leverages the committed states of data and misses what happens in between. Furthermore, applications that don’t write transactional logs are not captured. While some of them may be dabbling in user task mining, Skan’s origin is firmly rooted in the belief that deciphering the nature of work from their actions and activities offers the most accurate view of workflows and processes.
Skan’s technology has the ability to fathom various nuances and subtleties of how work happens and also encapsulate the tribal knowledge into the way process variants diverge and converge.
How does Skan work?
Skan deploys a non-intrusive virtual process agent on process participant desktops. The VPA is a lightweight probe, similar to a web conference applet, that is on the system tray and records screen interactions. From all these individual images of user interactions with digital systems, and through the law of large numbers, our AI engine is able to fathom the process and its variants.
What kind of systems integration do you require?
Not at all. The beauty of our platform and technology is we don’t need application or data integration or APIs or batch files to do our work.
How long does it take for Skan to analyze and come up with the process models?
Depending on the nature and complexity and cycle time of the process, any where from 2 weeks to 8 weeks will be enough to account for all the process variants, diversity in case complexity, and the cycle times. Of course, if a process cycle time is 18 weeks, then the duration needs to change.
We already have consultants who help us with Process Mapping. Why do we need a technology?
We at Skan believe human business analysts/consultants mapping processes are often ineffective and incomplete as it typically focuses on a so-called golden process and perhaps one or two exception paths. But in our experience, we believe most enterprise processes have dozens of process variants.
Furthermore, people know more than what they can tell, and also process participants indicate how work is supposed to be done, not necessarily how they do it.
We believe Skan can be a great ally to consultants – adding evidence to their expertise. But the vivid and detailed process model is beyond any consultant – however bright they may be and the in-depth domain knowledge they possess.
Last but not least, Skan can monitor processes on an ongoing basis and deliver value each day.
Doesn’t recording employees work have privacy and legal implications? The whole big brother thing.
We get how important personal privacy is for employees and companies. What Skan records is what is on the screen and not what is in front of the screen.
We allow company administrators to add applications to an inclusion list and an exclusion list so that any applications that are not a part of work are not included and recorded.
Furthermore, we provide the ability to pause and restart the virtual process agent.
How does Skan help beyond providing a snapshot of processes?
We see Skan more as a Fitbit for the enterprise where ongoing monitoring results in continuous improvement of processes.
