Healthcare organizations today face many challenges. These include claims processing bottlenecks, rising compliance risks and rising operational costs, all while maintaining the quality of care members have come to expect.
One healthcare payer partnered with Skan AI to optimize the productivity of a team that faced many of these challenges every day.
To help this organization, Skan AI’s process intelligence platform with desktop observation technology sought to answer the following questions:
- Which applications were used outside their primary member management system?
- How much time did staff spend on non-process applications, like Notepad and Excel?
- How often did staff switch between applications?
- What activities should they focus on that will have the highest impact?
Because Skan AI can observe any application, the analysis was able to shine a light on how staff use multiple applications, websites, and productivity tools for case decisions. Not only did Skan AI demonstrate the usage frequency, but also which actions had the largest impact on processing times.
For example, the analysis revealed an average of 15 application switches per case. This highlights the time spent switching and refocusing. Skan AI showed their leaders the time spent on information gathering and how inconsistent note-taking impacted processing times.
Armed with these insights and many others, Skan AI identified opportunities for streamlining application usage. By quantifying application usage and switching, our focus shifted to identifying automation opportunities and consolidating applications to streamline note creation for more efficient data gathering and decision-making.
Our analysis also uncovered that staff spend considerable time on productivity applications like Excel, Notepad, and Teams. Skan AI’s analysis revealed that as staff frequently seek answers, they spend almost a quarter of their day on communication alone.
Using these insights, this team was able to confidently make changes that increased productivity by almost 25%.
